Getting to Know the South Texas Medical Center Neighborhood

Northwest of Balcones Heights, Northeast of San Antonio Aquarium, crossroads being Babcock Road, Callaghan Road, Huebner Road, and Fredericksburg Road, is The South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio. With banks, coffee shops, food, and post offices conveniently located, there is plenty of time for leisure activities such as shooting a round at Oak Hills Golf Course or going for a walk at Denman Estate Park.

With four Chase Bank locations, Compass Bank, Bank of America, Frost Bank, Bank SNB, Wells Fargo Bank, Firstmark Credit Union, United San Antonio Credit Union, and San Antonio Credit Union, managing your finances has never been easier. Whether you’re craving Sonic or Wingstop or looking to sit down somewhere like Mencius Gourmet Hunan, there are more than enough dining options to experience.

With Merit Coffee, Café Martinez, and Dunkin’ Donuts right across the street (Louis Pasteur Drive and Babcock Road) from the School of Nursing, fresh coffee can be the first thing you do after class. Grab a fresh lab coat at Sunshine Uniforms or Scrubs & Beyond. Grab some odds-and-ends from Babcock Food Mart convenience store. Five Blocks northwest is FedEx Office Print & Ship Center for all your documentation and file needs. You can choose from McDonald’s, La Tapatia, or Lee’s Garden Chinese on that corner alone. Keep heading up the block, and you will find Subway, El Pollo Loco, Jack in the Box, and Taco Bell. Get your hands dirty at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and put down a brew at Oak Hills Tavern off Fredericksburg Road. Head up the street and make your way down Wurzbach Road and choose from India Palace or Golden Wok. Pick up your groceries from Ali Baba International Food Market.

Charge your electric vehicle, get your computer fixed at Intech Southwest Computer Repair, and make a stop at Smoothie King in the same area. Dive into SA Scuba Shack off Huebner Road and go for a deep swim on your day off. On the corner of Babcock and Huebner, get your Saturday back by depositing your check at Chase Bank, shipping out orders across the street at the UPS Store, and grab a cup of joe at Brevity Coffee before you even leave the intersection. You might as well pay a visit to Honchos – The House of Churros while you’re over there.

If you prefer AutoZone or O’Reilly, they’re both on Babcock. Once your headlight is fixed, get a streak-free shine from The Bubble Bath Car Wash. A clean car requires clean clothes; roll over to Lavanderia Laundromat and quit putting off that hamper of dirty clothes.
